Delta Dental Celebrates National Children’s Dental Health Month with PSAs, Special Events—and Captain Supertooth!
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. We’re using this opportunity to reach as many people as possible about the importance of children’s oral health.
-
Check out the latest PSA
produced the Delta Dental of New Jersey
Foundation, New Jersey Dental
Association, and Give Kids A
Smile. It features Emmy-award winning actress Julia Barr, star of All My Children, who has a very important message about oral health for all of our children.
-
The Foundation also worked with the New Jersey Dental Association on the annual Give Kids A Smile Day, where patients received free cleanings, screenings, X-rays, fillings, extractions, fluoride treatments, oral health education, and other services.
-
Captain Supertooth--Delta Dental’s caped crusader of oral health—this month will visit more than 25 schools and more than 7,000 kids in kindergarten through second grade in New Jersey and Connecticut. In addition, Captain Supertooth and Delta Dental of New Jersey employee volunteers will be at Children’s Dental Health Awareness Day at the
Liberty Science Center later this month.
Finding Dentists Who Treat Patients with Special Needs
Good oral health is vitally important to everyone. But for those with special needs, maintaining good oral health can be difficult. Many dental practices aren’t equipped to handle patients with severe physical or developmental disabilities. Fortunately, several clinics offer such services, as well as some dentists in private practice.

clinics. To find a private dental practice in your area that serves patients with special needs, please email
Eric Elmore at the New Jersey Dental Association.
Delta Dental Plans Association Launches Wellness Blog
One of the challenges each of us faces is staying focused on our oral health between dental appointments. To help, the
Delta Dental Plans Association (DDPA) recently introduced a
new blog about oral health. The blog dispenses oral health tips and information from Dr. Bill Kohn, DDPA’s vice president of dental science and policy. Dr. Kohn, the former director of the
Division of Oral Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is a well-respected voice in the dental industry with more than 30 years of experience.

Other Healthy ‘Bytes’
Besides the new blog, Delta Dental offers lots of other ways to learn more and stay focused on oral health. Here are a few:
- @DeltaDental, DDPA’s Twitter
feed, sends regular tweets about oral health and wellness.
-
Oral Health and Wellness, a section of Delta Dental of New Jersey’s website, contains hundreds of articles about oral health issues affecting people of every age. There’s a whole area devoted exclusively to pediatric oral health, which covers issues from preventing dental injuries to helping youngsters prepare for their first dental visit.
- Dental
Connections, our video library of nearly two dozen videos, covers a wide range of topics, from how-to advice on brushing and flossing to handling dental emergencies, quitting smoking, and much more.
- “Kid’s Club” is a special area of our website designed especially to teach kids about oral health while having fun.
